You lie on the floor
You start with one movement
You start feeling in yourself what you need
By the end of this series you will learn
how to give yourself a lesson that is
unique to you (in the moment)
and built off what you learned
in the series.
Moving in gravity is one of the very first skills we learn.
No one teaches us to move. We learn to move, and to move intentionally.
Dr. Feldenkrais called it “Organic Learning” and looked for ways to bring us again to this non-verbal learning, either through touch, or through using precise and simple movement directions.
The movements themselves are simple, everyday actions, but they allow us to pay attention to different parts of our body and become aware of how we do what we do.
Then we get a chance to improve our actions.
“Things should be as simple as possible, but no simpler”. - Albert Einstein
Since movement is not possible without the brain (brain dead people don’t move), the improvement needs to happen in the brain. The brain improves by learning new ways of connecting information – information it gets from our senses and our language.
The ability to constantly come up with new ways of thinking and acting, to see new options and make new connections to deal with the new problems, keeps us on the course of mental and physical health.
Do I need to stop and think about all my choices before each action? Of course not! The new connections you make and repeat turn into neurological structures that are available the same way your old habits are available! Your brain just has a more detailed map!
During 38 years of practicing and studying the Feldenkrais Method, I find myself getting better and better at practicing self-care creatively and effectively. Today, I come up with new solutions to problems naturally, enjoying a huge repertoire of options. Not only did I study the options through the Awareness Through Movement lessons - my brain learned to come up with new ones! I feel a sense of independence in finding solutions.
I find it compelling to try and make this ability available to everyone who is looking for life-enhancing resources and I hope you will join me in this quest.

Bio— What people are saying About Aliza’s teaching
“I am going to be your last teacher. Not because I will be the greatest teacher you may ever encounter, but because from me you will learn how to learn. When you learn how to learn, you will realize that there are no teachers. There are only people learning and people learning how to facilitate learning” -Moshe Feldenrkais
